What the weekend entailed

it began with a rainbow and just got better from there...

salmon kabobs (delicious and easy!)
rock the garden
holy land falafel
raspberry lemonade
new jacket
chocolate chip cookies
walking the sculpture garden @ sunset with the Decemberists rocking Heart's Crazy on You in the background = perfection

My cousin took this picture with his phone of the crowd during the day; seriously ten thousand people there...didn't feel crazy crowded though. Great people watching and some serious fashion going on. As my cousin said, it was a sea of sundresses.

Focus! My mission statement

I feel very lazy for not posting in this blog. Not that it's mandatory to update blogs but I like the online community and the blogs I've encountered and read so far. I've just felt...a bit uninspired. A long unemployment, a loooong winter...it was just an uninspiring time of life. Hence my ignoring this blog.
But! winter is over and I have a job and again I've fallen in love with my city of Minneapolis. Yes, I claim ownership, that's how much I love it! So hopefully I can post more about local events and stores and give another insight to Minneapolis. There's plenty of yummy food, great sites, and fun things going on especially in the summer. And I am making it mandatory that I carry my camera around with me everywhere. I may be slightly embarrassed by my photography skills but I feel like I'm missing out documenting things that matter to me.
I didn't take this picture but I just had to state my excitement about the Kushner Celebration going on at the Guthrie Theater. We have really great regional theater here and I always swell with pride when I think of the Guthrie.

Working on it...

More crossed off the list. Went to the MIA. The jade mountain alone was worth the visit. I will be going back at least once a year because you can't see everything in one visit.

I.Must.Have.This.Jacket

This Alexander Wang for Gap is so exactly what I'm looking for, it's like they read my mind. I've been on the hunt for a perfect lightweight jacket and it's way harder than I thought. I don't want to (and can't afford to) spend 400 dollars on a jacket, beautiful as it may be. It'd probably be to beautiful for me to actaully wear.
I went on a hunt last week for something to keep me from freezing on chilly spring mornings and the best I could find was a men's jacket but alas it wouldn't zip up because I have hips and apparently men don't. I'm excited for this collaboration and the one with vena cava too (the zipper dress...to die for). But waiting a month is the sucky part. Plus will they have it where I live? Online? Please Gap, please have it in stock and in my size.

Oh boy...

I've always leaned towards thinking girls were better because (sadly) they have better fashion. Dresses, bows, and fun colors...oh my! But this boy is beyond stylish. I love it when kids have an awesome personality that's completely all their own. Unfortunately I think in a few years he'll look like every hipster on the block but for now he rocks it.

Girls who wear glasses

So I wear glasses. Not often enough to keep them constantly on my face (I need them really only for driving at night and for reading something at a distance). They spend most of their time at the bottom of my bag. Here's my dilemma. My glass case invariably becomes broken. I have owned several cases of black, hinged cases and the all become busted...they won't close properly, the cases becomes smoshed in the middle somehow. Trust me I wish I knew what I was doing to them. It's not like I have a big hulk hand that reaches into my bag and smashes them up. I guess it's just the inevitability of having things in your handbag and not being too precious with it.

Anyway, I'm never really looking to replace my smashed glass case. As long as the glasses are relatively safe I don't worry. This caught my eye though. Do I think it would withstand my handbag of doom? Not likely but it sure is pretty and I bet I'd find my glasses a lot quicker.

This might take awhile to cross off...

Slowly working on my dresser (which was on my 27 things to get done before turning 27 list)...it has a ton of paint to get off but so far my power sander is working through it well. I'm worried about the smaller grooves though. There's plenty of paint sticking to them and even hand sanding isn't really getting rid of it. Something I need to ponder for awhile.

Anyway, I know exactly how I want the finished product to look. I'm going to paint it a black color in a satin finish. I need a little sheen but I can't take glossy paint. Can't find the hardware for the drawer knobs anywhere but they were pretty bad anyway, so I'll have to replace those. I'm thinking these knobs in pink. I'm normally not very into pinks but this is so soft and has a barely pink but still pink quality to it. I want to line the drawers with some sort of paper but I haven't found anything I like yet. And for the top of the desk, a glassybaby in tutu and some fresh peonies. I'm all about the finishing touches.

Very very fine house

One of my favorite past times is to go to craigslist and look at apartments for rent. Mostly for the thrill of a great find. Most of the stuff I find is cleaning looking but alas boring. Others are downright frightening. But it's always that really good find that makes my hours of trolling worth it.

If I ever move to Seattle this is where I'd like to live:

Photobucket

The living room does it for me; the kitchen and the bathroom look fine if nothing special but that living room is where I'd spend all my time lounging when I was going outside to admire the view:

For something more local I'll go with this:

I'm all about the hardwood floors. And that it's in a nice neighborhood and cheap for a one bedroom.

Nice day for a white wedding

Even though I'm a long way away from thinking about getting married, I still gather images of wedding ideas like a magpie collects shiny trinkets.

My wedding favorite image right now:

Eugene O'Neill and his wife Carlotta Monterey. She just looks so, so chic. Love the simple wedding dress, the earrings, her hair...everything. Although I'd want a better marriage than theirs.

Pay Attention

Ugh I wish I hadn't missed this exhibit

I usually don't make new year's resolutions but I think a good one would be to pay attention to what's going on in my community. Golden Girl marathons will be there any old time (and all 7 seasons on dvd!)

God bless The Soup

When in need of a laugh, I just watch this. Guaranteed LOL.

Neko Case is made of awesome

note to self: pre-order soon.

Short and sweet (happy friday and new year!)

Last night I dreamt I was making out with Jason Segel; I like him, I have more big brother friend vibe from him but he's on a maybe to-do list if I ever meet him (not bloody likely). We were making out and it was great but then I look over and he's completely asleep, using my boob as a pillow. And then I realized I can't even get lucky in MY OWN DREAM.

Even so, I'd go see his new movie (paul rudd's more on the to-do list than jason so I'm in nerd girl heaven).
